University of Michigan Hillel Onward Israel program is an immersive internship program offering resume building placements in a wide variety of fields in the greater Tel Aviv Area. Students spend part of the program living, experiencing, and interning in Israel and the other part of the program at home working with their employer remotely while continuing in other remote educational aspects.
Build your resume through a high-level internship based on your skills, interests and future plans. During your time in Israel, Intern 4-5 days a week, and immerse yourself in contemporary Israeli society through the Israel Now Days and group activities with a cohort of other students from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, a weekend seminar with participants from other Onward Israel programs and more. The Israel Now days will include visits to local NGOs and explorations of contemporary Israeli culture, environment, and politics.
During your free time, explore Tel Aviv’s exciting nightlife, beaches, foodie scene and culture. Enjoy a weekend with peers from around the world at an Onward Israel breakout seminar and explore all that Israel has to offer during your free weekends.

Cost
$775
All participants are responsible for cost of and arranging their own flights and additional spending money. Flight should not be purchased until a decision has been made about the viability of the program.
Participants will be required to submit a $225 participation and security deposit in cash or by check upon arrival. Deposits will be refunded at the end of the program pending good standing.
The actual cost of the Onward Israel program is much higher, and is subsidized up to 70% by Onward Israel, private donors, and local Jewish communities and institutions. Participants are responsible for arranging their own flights. Flight should not be purchased until a decision has been made about the viability of the program.
Internship Opportunities
Participants will be paired with an Israeli company or organization and assigned work projects to complete over the course of the program. It is expected that participants complete their work projects during the designated dates of the program and fully participate in all required enrichment and education activities. Note that there would be a shift in the type of work conducted after transitioning from in person to remote work. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as even within a specific field, the nature of your work will change throughout the program.
This Onward Israel program is operated through a partnership between the Beacon and Shapira Foundations and other leading philanthropists, the Government of Israel, and The Jewish Agency for Israel.
Acceptance Criteria
Applicants must be Jewish students returning to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in the fall of 2021.
Students must have been to Israel before on Birthright or a similar short-term trip. Students that have spent more than three months living, participating on an organized trip, or gap year are ineligible
